Montreal: Group Coscient subsidiary Motion International has signed a long-term output agreement for the Quebec market with DreamWorks skg, the entertainment company founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen.
DreamWorks Pictures’ theatrical release slate includes the recently released The Peacemaker, the Spielberg-directed feature Amistad starring Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins, and The Mouse Hunt.
Closer to home, Motion and the National Film Board have announced a five-year agreement to release at least four nfb titles a year in home video stores. The first nfb release includes A Christmas Gift, an eight-film package which sells for $14.95 and includes Roch Carrier’s animated classic The Sweater.
Motion, headed by president Stephen Greenberg, has output agreements with hbo, Showtime, Dick Clark Productions, Hearst Entertainment, and also operates Canada’s leading tv program distributor, Fox Motion Television, a joint venture with 20th Century Fox.
Motion released the Allegro Films action thriller The Assignment Friday, Oct. 3. The film is directed by Christian Duguay and stars Donald Sutherland, Aidan Quinn and Ben Kingsley. Upcoming releases include Roger Cantin’s family fantasy Matusalem 2 and the $17-million Claude Lelouch feature Apres tout, currently filming on location in Montreal.
