Canada’s French-language broadcasters will begin the on-air use of a program classification code Oct. 6.
Five ‘anti-violence’ classifications have been adopted, All Ages or General (g ), 8+, 13+, 16+ and 18+. The logo will appear in the upper left-hand portion of the screen and is applicable to youth and children’s programs, drama including sitcoms, reality programs and movies.
The system has been worked out jointly by the broadcasters and is based largely on the classification code used by Quebec’s film administration tribunal, Regie du cinema. The crtc approved the code in June.
