Nicholas Barker has a reputation that precedes him. As the maker of the controversial, biting British tv series Signs of the Times, he has become known as a relentessly tough director. Four people – a single mother and former lapdancer, a young woman anxious to be married, a 40-year-old bachelor and a has-been screenwriter – made the final cut.
