News Brief: Edge slate

Eith two years of production under its belt, Saskatoon’s The Edge Productions’ is looking at an expanded slate for 1997.

Edge president and producer David D’erksen is in development on the $1 million action-comedy feature Standard Deviation, about a pair of armed variety store robbers aiming to make their first bank hit. Regina’s Reel Eye Media is coproducing and the shoot is tentatively set for August in Regina.

Summer of the Monkeys, adapted by Greg Taylor and Jim Strain from the book by Wilson Rawls, g’es into production this summer in Saskatoon. The feature-length family movie is set on a farm in the early 1900s and tells of a young boy’s quest to capture escaped monkeys, claim a reward and buy his own pony.

Deception, a murder-mystery cable feature, is slated for 1998. Amsell Entertainment is distributing.

The Edge acquired rights to Reel Planet, a youth-oriented entertainment tv series sponsored by the Planet Hollywood franchise. Production begins in Saskatoon this summer for fall delivery. A Canadian broadcast window hasn’t been finalized.

The company has also formed a distribution arm, The Edge Entertainment Group, which will distribute its own properties as well as acquisitions.
