– CFP takes on Maritime classification board

Following a ban in Nova Scotia, p. e. i. and New Brunswick of Angelica Huston’s directorial debut Bastard Out Of Carolina by the Maritime Film Classification Board, Canadian distributor Cinepix Film Properties is fighting back.

cfp has delivered an appeal to the executive director of the Nova Scotia Gaming Control Commission, and has promised a $5 donation to Kids Help Phone for each video sale. The offending scene in the film is an explicit portrayal of the rape of a young girl at the hands of her father.

-Banff Festival Award of Excellence winner

Award-winning writer/producer Diane English has been named the recipient of the Banff Television Festival’s 1997 Award of Excellence.

The award recognizes an individual for a body of work over time and festival president and ceo Pat Ferns says English is being honored as one of television’s foremost social and political satirists, willing to take risks to raise the consciousness of audiences.

English created Murphy Brown and is currently executive producing the cbs comedy series Ink. She also recently completed a feature script for The Women, New Line Pictures’ remake of the 1939 classic.

She will accept the award at the 18th annual Banff Rockie Awards on June 9. Past winners include Steven Bochco, Peter Jennings and Sir Peter Ustinov.
