Vancouver: In March, Radical Entertainment of Vancouver released two new video game titles, which represent about one-third of its annual title output.
Independence Day, a game based on the blockbuster film, was released to North American store shelves on March 11. Produced for Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Windows 95, the game is published by Fox Interactive, but created and programmed entirely by Radical.
Produced by Jack Rebbetoy, the game is a 3D flying adventure in which players conduct anti-alien missions through realistically rendered cities like Tokyo and New York.
On March 25, Radical released its own original title called The Divide – Enemies Within, published through Virgin Interactive.
The 3D action-adventure arcade-style game delves into the consequences of careless exploration and interference with nature. The premise of the game is that exploration of a valley on a planet causes evolutionary changes and catastrophic effects.
Producer Ian Verchere says Divide is the first video game with a moral dilemma, in which players are asked to decide the fate of the final character. It is produced for the Sony PlayStation and Windows 95.
Radical produces about five titles yearly for a variety of platforms. The March release, says Verchere, is a post-Christmas strategy that hopes to take advantage of the platforms given as Yuletide gifts whose owners are looking for new games.
