Toronto-based Greenlight Entertainment has two projects on its upcoming production slate – a feature film Hellcab and half-hour magazine series Get A Grip On Golf.
Hellcab, a $5 million comedy based on the long-running play by Will Kern, began principal photography March 8 in Chicago. The American team of Mary Cibulski and John Tintori adapted the play for film and are sharing the director’s chair. Suzanne De Walt, Paul Dillon and Jamie Gordon are producing.
The story follows a cab driver who picks up a number of zany characters on Christmas Day. John Cusack, Gillian Anderson, Laurie Metcalf and Paul Dillon are among the cast.
Shooting wraps mid-April for release in July. Greenlight’s subsidiary Everest Entertainment will handle Canadian distribution, with kmi managing foreign sales.
Filming has also begun in Toronto and Florida on 13 episodes of Get A Grip On Golf, a coproduction between Greenlight and Michael Geddes’ Lone Eagle Enterprise. Created by Geddes, series host/comedian Glen Fosterwill pokes fun at the sport while offering tips. Shooting wraps March 30, with the series airing weekly on CanWest Global beginning April 13.
Greenlight and Lone Eagle will manage sales and merchandising worldwide.
