Newfoundland and Labrador has, with $1 million over five years from the Canada/Newfoundland Agreement on Economic Renewal, established the Nfld. and Labrador Film Development Corporation to direct the growth of the indigenous industry and market the province for location shooting. It answers to the provincial government through the minister of development and rural renewal.

In addition to funding for the corp., about $90,000 has been allocated to support initiatives including a digital editing system for the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Cooperative and sending local producers to mipcom.

As originally planned, finalized ctcpf guidelines will be announced the first week of March, and not (as-apparently-widely-anticipated) at the cftpa’s February confab in Ottawa.
