There’s a strange looking bunch at the gate. Sexy bloodsuckers vs. a clean livin’ group in period dress; hotshot downtown upstarts vs. those who live above the tree line. And then there’s a red, white and blue flavored Mountie.

The Academy had lots of choice this year. Go for perennial Canadiana as in Avonlea or North of 60, go for Canadians making some cash as in Traders, go for Canadians among strangers as in Due South, or go off the deep end altogether and pick the vampires from cult hit Forever Knight.

The Mountie already has two best dramatic series trophies tucked under his red serge-clad arm, but the Prince Edward Islanders are hungry, and the suits are still on the air
