The Republic National Bank of New York (Canada) is trying to position itself as a boutique, offering producers a film financing alternative out of its Toronto office.
Interim production financing activities will be handled by vp Daniel McMullen, who is heading up the effort solo, and says staff ‘will grow with the business.’
McMullen, who has been in the film financing biz with various institutions for 15 years (qualifying for pioneer status), joined Republic five months ago, and within the last few months production loans have gone to an mow, a low-budget feature and a tv series. The bank has financed tax credits, however, individual consideration is required. While new media is part of the plan going forward, for now the focus is film and tv.
Out of its Montreal office, Republic has been active on the tax shelter front for a couple of years.
