Vancouver-based post-production company Rainmaker Digital Pictures will open a facility in l.a. by year end. It will focus on digital visual effects, compression and digital video disk authoring.

Rainmaker has focused heavily over the past two years on developing its own mpeg compression technology and the move to expand follows announcements of an agreement with a u.s. company to provide compression services for entertainment and educational programming.
