Commercial Directions: Spy shoots in Mexico

Avion picked up three days for Motorola through McCann, Atlanta. Norman Seeff directed two days of the shoot and Laurie Rubin shot a day, creating three spots of various lengths.

Nick Lewin at Avion wrapped a five-day shoot for Nissan through tbwa, u.k. dop Doug Koch had his Ontario map put to good use, shooting numerous country scenes north of Toronto. Post-production is being handled in the u.k.

Spy Films has had a busy few weeks. Carl Armstrong directed a day with dop Glen Keenan for Cantel/Nokia through Gee Jeffery and Partners. Post on the three 30s was done in-house by editor Andrew Hunt.

Pete Henderson finished up three 15-second spots for Bell Canada through Leo Burnett. Koch was dop on the one-day shoot and Panic & Bob’s Andy Ames edited. Henderson was also off to Nobleton, Ont. with shooter Koch for a two-day shoot for Terra Boots. Third Floor’s Gillian McCarthy edited the 30.

Javier and dop Federico Barbabossa found themselves in a far more exotic location, shooting in Mexico City and Acapulco for 10 days. The five 30-second spots are for General Motors, Mexico through McCann-Erikson, Mexico City. Post is taking place in Mexico City.

Henderson also teamed up with dop Sean Valentini on three 30s for Bell Canada Real Plus through Leo Burnett. The shoot lasted three days. Ames edited.

And director Gord McWatters wrapped a day for Ford Expedition, with Keenan on board as dop. The assignment was through Young and Rubicam. McWatters is also editing.

For a Rave Films/Realife of Vancouver coproduction, director Rod Chong picked up a day for Kawasaki through Interimage. Marcus Elliott was the dop, with post design on the 30-second spot also by Chong.

At Rave, director/dop Jack Churchill wrapped two days for kfc through Ogilvy & Mather. Panic & Bob’s David Hicks edited the single 30-second commercial. Churchill also shot and edited a 30 for cibc, with Hicks editing. The one-day shoot was assigned through Padulo.

At Mac Productions in Mississauga, director Michael A. Charbon is shooting a 30 for Liberty Canada Insurance and Laidlaw Carriers. Titled ‘Elevated Tree,’ the commercial uses steadicam shots from King Valley golf course intercut with the illusion of an elevated green, constructed on top of two transport trailers, with a third truck acting as a tee-off sight. The spot features chay Oakville radio personality Jim Paulson sinking a ball and will air on tsn on Aug. 17 during the broadcast of the Liberty Canada Invitational Pro-Am Classic golf tournament.

Coyote Films’ director/dop Ken Kuramoto has picked up a second national 30-second spot for Eron Mortgage Corporation in Vancouver. Based on the success of the first spot in the series, the commercial will focus on testimonials of customers. The one-day shoot will take place at various locations throughout Vancouver. Post-production will be handled by Post Haste Video in Vancouver.
