– Canada Post honors cinema centennial
Andre Ouellette, chairman of the board of Canada Post, will unveil 10 new postage stamps commemorating 100 years of cinema in Canada at the Aug. 22 opening ceremonies of the Montreal World Film Festival.
The stamps feature scenes from Canadian film classics including L’Arrive d’un train en gare (1896), Goin’ Down the Road (1970), Mon Oncle Antoine (1971), The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974), Les Bons debarras (1980) and The Grey Fox (1982).
The 10-stamp series was designed by Montreal artist Pierre-Yves Pelletier, designer of the Masterpieces of Canadian Art series, in consultation with film historian Andre Paquet. In addition to a scene from the film, the stamps include the name of the film, its production year and the name of the director.
The stamps go on sale Aug. 22.
