One spot, titled ‘Lawrence Lemieux,’ tells how the Olympic athlete abandoned his chance for a silver medal to save a drowning sailor on the Korean sailing team. The ‘Jeff Adams’ spot is the story of Adams’ incredible strength and endurance in overcoming a crippling illness to become the fastest wheelchair racer in the world.
Director/dop Erick Ifergan at Imported Artists wrapped five days in l.a. and Toronto for Air Canada through Marketel, Montreal. The two 30s for the Summer Olympics were edited by Jon Hopp at Third Floor Editing and assistant editor Melanie Barter handled post.
At Imported Artists, Richard D’Alessio picked up a day for Dayton’s Department Store through Martin Williams Advertising. dop Simon Mestel shot the 10- and 30-second spots and Bruce Copeman at Axyz edited.
Big Star’s Giacomo Moncada directed Stella Pharmaceuticals’ first spot for Snap facial products. Mario Madau was dop and Tony DiPasquale edited at Medallion pfa. The assignment was awarded by VMC Media.
comm.bat film’s Jean-Marc Piche picked up a day for the Heart & Stroke Foundation through MacLaren McCann. Mestel shot the spot, for the mother/daughter walk, and The Daily Post’s Wendy Linton edited.
Dan Izzard at comm.bat shot and directed a day for Kellogg’s Fruit Loops through Leo Burnett. Smash’s Denis Takacs handled post.
Boris Damast picked up two days for Sprint through Grey Advertising, New York. dop was Robert Lechterman and Spontaneous Combustion did post.
At Magic, Terry Collier shot and directed a 30 for General Mills through fcb. Olaf Relitzki edited.
Kessler Irish Films’ Ron Baxter Smith directed a 30 for Nabisco Brands through Harrod & Mirlin. Andre Pienaar was the dop on the one-day shoot and Third Floor’s Alex Eaton edited. Baxter Smith also picked up a day for the Canadian National Exhibition through Gee, Jeffery & Partners. James Gardner shot the 30 and Gillian McCarthy at Third Floor handled post.
At Radke, Mark Mainguy directed three 30s for Canadian Classics through Saatchi & Saatchi. Glen Keenan was dop on the one-day studio shoot and Grant Pye at Third Floor edited.
Radke’s Philip Kates picked up a day on location for Reactine through Taxi. Doug Koch shot the French and English 30 and Panic & Bob’s Baxter handled post.
Director David Hackl and dop Martin Julian at Apple Box teamed up for a day to create two 15-second cereal spots for Kraft Premiums. The agency was bbdo and post took place at Atomic, with David Buder editing.
In Vancouver, Apple Box’s Philip Spink directed two 30-second spots for McDonald’s featuring a prehistoric 300-pound, rod-puppet chicken that chases cave men. Ron Williams was dop on the location shoot at a rock quarry. The assignment was through Palmer Jarvis, Vancouver. Post took place at North West Imaging & f/x.
Apple Box director Gary Weis and dop Williams picked up three days on location for B.C. Ford and Mercury, producing four 30s through agency y&r fmda.
Back in Toronto, Avion’s Stanley Mestel shot and directed a pool of spots for Grand & Toy through Doner Schur Peppler. Smash is editing.
Also at Avion, director John Zurik wrapped two days for Maple Leaf Foods, with Mestel on board as dop. The 30 is through Harrod & Mirlin.
At L.T.B. Productions, director Christopher Gentile and dop Ryan McMaster had a day for Wolverine. Editing was handled by Barry McMann at Third Floor. Director/dop Steve Bruni landed a three-day package for Kraft out of JWT Toronto. Bob Kennedy of Flashcut edited the French and English 30s. Director Greg Gold wrapped two spots for Sears and Prism Communications, with Sean Valentini handling dop duties. Post on the English and French 30s was handled by David Hicks of Panic & Bob.
