Northwest bound

Vancouver’s Northwest Imaging & Effects is looking to bulk up its staff with the planned addition of a pair of effects people and some supporters. Pending a smooth immigration process, Australian effects supervisor Paul Cox will be imported in the near future. Northwest will also be snagging a new Flame operator from Toronto.

CityROM releases

CHUM Television’s multimedia division Cityrom, which represents Citytv, MuchMusic and Bravo!, launched a new series of multimedia projects at a reception May 23, attended by physicist and performance artist Dr. Fiorella Terenzi.

Titles include Bravo! Presents: Art on File, The Best of fiva online, Volume 1, a joint production with Montreal’s Media Renaissance; Bravo! Presents: No Price Too High, a joint production with Southam New Media based on the tv series broadcast on Bravo! and produced by Norflicks Productions; and MuchMusic MuchMedia, a selection of projects from MuchInteractive. The titles will be available through Cityrom via the ChumCity Interactive Web site and at retail stores beginning this fall.

Telesat interacts

Telesat Canada and Ottawa-based Synervision Digital Productions recently announced an agreement to deliver online, on-demand corporate multimedia training tools using Direcpc, Telesat’s high-speed digital satellite connection.

The Synervision Learning Network allows subscribers with a pizza-sized dish antenna and pc-based receiver kit to access the Internet at up to 400 kilobits per second, which provides the capability for interactive training tools featuring full-motion video, graphics, animation, audio and music.

Alliance’s one good eye

Alliance Communications will be using software from Ottawa’s Cyclop Vision to search, track and archive its film and tv holdings.

Cyclop Vision, a division of General Assembly Production, designed the Cyclop network software program for libraries of film, video, audio and media-related elements.

The program is a relational database with full-text search, multilevel archiving and shot-by-shot cataloguing by smpte code and generates reports, bar codes and labels as well functions for loan tracking and duplication orders.
