Bulldog launches
Bulldog Group, based in Toronto with offices in San Francisco, has launched its Media-On-Demand turnkey media asset management solution. The system, based on object processing technology, offers painless indexed asset management for companies like multimedia developers, which typically have reams of disparate media files.
Media-On-Demand is built on the Illustra content management system from Informix Software, based in Menlo Park, Calif. The system provides a company-wide portfolio of all assets including images, sound, graphics and video, and features automatic indexing for easier search and retrieval.
The system will be available nationwide beginning this month, and pricing begins at $20,000. Media-On-Demand currently runs on the Silicon Graphics Challenge server and will be available on nt by July, with other platforms to follow.
Bulldog has also launched a new Web site which showcases its technology, provides product information, and features a canine section for pet lovers.
Banff Centre goes Deep
Alberta’s Banff Centre for the Performing Arts has announced Deep Web, a two-year professional program which incorporates Web site creation, software development, workshops, residencies and art exhibitions. Deep Web will examine various aspects of the Web, including artistic, educational, publishing, entertainment and marketing applications.
Creative proposals from Canadian and international artists, designers, production companies and technicians are invited and will be adjudicated beginning Aug. 1.
Under the framework of Deep Web, the Multimedia Summer Institute provides seminars for senior creative professionals. Seminars include Surf’s Up, June 7-8, an exploration of the Web’s potential, and Interactive Screen, an immersion in interactive authoring and producing, July 19-31.
Confirmed faculty for Multimedia Summer Institute include Steven DeNure, president of Alliance Multimedia, and Fred Klinkhammer, president of MediaLinx Interactive.
Humber expands
Humber College in London, Ont. has opened a second Digital Imaging Training Lab equipped with 22 Apple power Macintosh 8500/120s with two gigabyte hard drives and 64 megabytes ram.
With the addition, the college has expanded its digital imaging courses and has launched a new certificate program, 3D Convergence and Technology, designed for those interested in 3D modeling for illustration, design, multimedia, interface design, game design, animation and virtual reality.
Animatics
Ottawa’s Animatics Multimedia has launched a Web site that delivers information on multimedia development as well as updates on developments at the company. The site also provides a link to a sneak preview of Animatics’ Club Mode interactive drama project and can be found at //www. animatics.com
TMN and FX folk celebrate
The Movie Network and The Bay have enlisted a number of Toronto post facilities to help celebrate the 100th anniversaries of filmmaking and of The Bay’s flagship store at Queen and Yonge in Toronto. Dan Krech Productions, C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures and LairdFX of Toronto, as well as The Virtual Film Festival Web site and sound composer Bob Derkach, will participate in movie-related demonstrations and events held at the downtown Bay from May 6-19.
