Early findings in the Canada Rack Program, a study out of British Columbia on Canadian video sales, indicate a 60% increase in the rentals of Canadian titles when the videos are put in their own section and promoted. In a press release, Red Lights Filmworks president Richard Baumgartel says previously Canadian titles accounted for about 1% of rentals in the locations being studied in the greater Vancouver area. The study placed 56 titles in the stores and tracked them for six months. Buamgartel estimates the Canadian video industry is worth about $2 billion and has found that Canadians have seen more Canadian titles on video than in theatres and on tv combined. The study will be released in April.
