Screamers earned $5.2 million across North America in its first 10 days on 1,560 screens starting Jan. 26. The Christian Duguay film, distributed stateside by Triumph Films and in Canada by Allegro Films Distribution, ranked ninth in North American box office after the opening weekend and slipped to 16th a week later. Box office on 34 screens in Quebec is $240,000 after 10 days, ‘a moderate success,’ says Allegro vp Franco Battisa.
Mort Ransen’s multiple Genie Award winner, Margaret’s Museum, was launched on 14 screens across Canada Jan. 26 by Malofilm Distribution and earned $200,000 in its first 10 days. An additional eight prints are part of a second release wave (Feb. 9) in Western Canada.
