Commercial Directions: Berry to Halifax for Loblaws

At Magic, director/dop Ted Parks shot one day early in February for Thrifty’s through Vaughn Whelan & Partners. Derek Case shot three days for Procter and Gamble’s Mr. Clean through Grey Advertising, and Chris Berry picked up a day in Halifax for Loblaws Atlantic Superstores through Duran Communications.

Revolver director Terence Babb has two shoots lined up for mid-February, a day for Nutralawn through Hopwood Creative Communications and a day for Panzerotto Pizza. The dops are yet to be decided, but Chris Brook will edit both.

The ltb team of director Christopher Gentile and dop Ryan McMaster picked up two days for Captain Crunch through Bayer Bess Vanderwalker and a day for Kraft out of BBDO Toronto. Director/dop C.B. Harding shot four more days for Tiger Toys through Posnick & Kolker, New York.

At Apple Box Edmonton, Bob Keates teamed up with dops Nicholas Allen Woolfe and John Spooner for two days on Taco Time, a project for The Agency Group in Calgary. Armstrong Studios animated Cactus Man for the three 15-second spots and Studio Post & Transfer is handling post. Director/dop Spooner shot two days for Time Life direct in Edmonton and teamed up with director Philip Spink in Vancouver for one day on Fruity Cocoa Pebbles for Ogilvy & Mather.

Aaron Shuster of Stonehenge Filmworks directed a one-day shoot resulting in a 30-second spot for the Driving School Association of Ontario through Royal Communications. dop was Kim Stephenson and Michael Scott will handle the online.

Director/dop David Simpson from Maxx Productions has just finished a two-day shoot for p&g through dmb&b. Third Floor’s Jon Hopp handled post.

John Zurik of Avion picked up a day for kfc through o&m, and Martin Granger will be directing two days for Milk through Doner in Baltimore. Simon Mestel is the dop on both projects.

Dalton’s Ron Campbell, working with dop Barry Parrel, shot a day for Macy’s through Padulo Advertising.

Richard D’Alessio of Imported Artists picked up a day for Bell through Leo Burnett lensed by Simon Mestel. Third Floor’s Gillian McCarthy handled editing. D’Alessio also picked up a prelight and a shoot day for Clorettes through jwt, lensed by James Gardner. At Third Floor, Richard Unruh edited.

In Montreal, recent commercial film action at Figaro Films International includes an enriched bread 30 for Pillsbury and Leo Burnett, Chicago, directed and lit by Glenn Bydwell, and a one-day French/English 30 called ‘X-Ray’ for gm and agency Cossette. The latter spot was directed by Martin Ouellette, with Jean-Pierre Trudel the dop, and was posted on Flame at Centre de Montage Electronique.

At La Fabrique d’Images, director/dop Adam Kimmel shot an English/French Rothmans Benson & Hedges Formula 1 sponsorship spot on location in Estoril, Portugal, with ’95 IndyCar champ Jacques Villeneuve. The assignment was out of Auger Babeux fcb.

Director Jean-Francois Pouliot and dop Steve Danyluk shot two French 30s for fplq, the Quebec milk producers’ association, and agency PNMD/Publitel. Director Marc S. Grenier and dop Bruce Chun shot the new Chasse aux Tresors spot for Loto-Quebec and Palm Publicite Marketing, while Francois Gingras and Danyluk teamed on a pizza promo 30 for Restaurants Mikes and Prisme Communications. Buzz co-ordinated the post on the Loto-Quebec shoot. Studio Marko did the sound. AstralTech handled lab duties and Supersuite did the film-to-tape transfer.

Director Jacques Fournier and dop Trudel shot ‘Hooked/Accroche,’ an anti-smoking 30 for Ministere Sante et Services Sociaux and agency Groupe Everest, while new house director Daniel Jaros and cinematographer Gabor Tarko helmed the action on the first wave of the French-track ’96 Sprint Canada campaign. Denis Mondion of cme handled the online editing. The lab was Sonolab.
