while the London Programme Market was a good one for sellers, buyers say there was less new product on offer at this year’s event, held Nov. 13-15 at Le Meridian.
Sixty-seven exhibitors and over 700 buyers from 48 countries attended. There were 17 Canadian buyers and 28 people registered from Canada. The National Film Board and the cbc both had stands.
While some on the buying side, such as John Gill, director of network scheduling for tvontario, report the market was a little slower than in previous years, on the sales side, Thomas Howe, senior director international coproductions, sales and acquisitions at CBC International Sales, must have been taking up the slack.
He reports ‘absolutely’ closing at this market, with Little Criminals, Net Worth and Side Effects particularly hot. Howe, who predicts this will be a record year for CBC International Sales, calls the London venue a worthwhile market for reaching the Europeans.
Other Canadians in attendance included representatives from access, Canamedia Productions, Ellis Enterprises, Family Channel, Films Transit, Knowledge Network, Multimedia Group, PGC Television, Premier Choix, Representative Films, Vision tv, ytv, and a three-person delegation from each of Vancouver companies T.H.A. Media Distributors and Liber Films.
Next year’s market dates are Nov. 18-20.
