Letters: Allegro deserves credit

in the article ‘Sound like you’ve never seen it before’ in the July 31 Special Report on Sound & Music, Master’s Workshop is listed as working on Screamers, which is a Columbia/TriStar release in the u.s.

Unfortunately, it is not stated in the article that Screamers is a production of Tom Berry and Franco Battista of Allegro Films, a Canadian company based in Montreal, nor the fact that Allegro is distributing the film in Canada. In fact, the reader will imply from the statement, ‘Add to that the growing recognition of ability by American producers (here Screamers is a good example)’ that the production is in fact American.

I know Playback is committed to give credit to Canadians when it is due, and in this case Screamers is a very important example of just how well Canadian-produced product is being accepted by the u.s. as well as internationally.
