– During the month of May, Telefilm Canada committed $7,830,480 for 12 new tv projects.
Through the Canadian Broadcast Program Development Fund, Telefilm invested $1.9 million to Rhombus Media’s Dido and Aenaes, Insight Productions’ Fellini and Me, Reunion Films’ Hallelujah on the Neva, Blue Sky Pictures’ If Only I Were Indian, Warehouse Productions’ Nobody’s Business, and Sullivan Entertainment’s Under the Piano.
Another $4.6 million went to Les Films Jasmine’s Jasmine, Productions sda’s Omerta: la loi du silence, Videotheme’s Parents malgre tout and Verseau International’s Zap III.
Under its Regular Fund, Trop c’est aussi from the Guilde des realisateurs cinematographiques received $15,000, and through its Special Production Fund, Telefilm committed $1.3 million to GMT Production’s La Belle epoque.
-Anthony LaTorella, recently appointed to the newly created position of manager of acquisitions at u.s.-based Tapestry International, says his new division will be actively looking to acquire high-quality Canadian programming for international distribution – particularly documentaries, doc series and short films.
LaTorella says his reps will be touring festivals in Canada to meet with independent filmmakers. Tapestry is the international distributor for the NOVA series and its catalog includes Great Performances.
-As part of Stornoway Productions’ recent decision to pursue and option dramatic properties, the company is meeting with several writers to develop an adaptation of Hugh MacLennan’s novel Each Man’s Son. The option for the mow was secured in April.
– actra has launched the 12th edition of Face to Face with Talent, a 588-page publication displaying faces, names and credits of actra and caea members. Shipment of 3,000 copies is underway.
