CCTA convention delegates will have a chance to see the future of the I-way at the Cablexpo trade show, a key component of Cableroute ’95.
Demonstrations include the latest developments in dvc and video and interactive tv technology, with software suppliers, manufacturers, pay and specialty programming and games channels among the 200 companies with kiosks at this year’s Cablexpo.
Panels and sessions
ccta convention chair Charles Keating, supported by volunteers from Atlantic cable companies and ccta staff in Ottawa, has prepared a lively and timely program for the convention, with sessions and panels on business and competition, marketing, programming, technology, r&d and management issues.
Participants in the opening plenary session on dbs, telco and telecommunications competition include Phil Lind of Rogers Communications, Robert Annunziata of Teleport Communications Group, Ken Stein of Shaw Communications, Peter Jollymore of NBTel and Expressvu’s Alain Gourd.
Panelists for the advanced services session include former Telesat Canada executive Carol Darling, now with wtn; Dr. David McNeill, School of Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick; Ken Nickerson, Microsoft Canada; and Bill Warner of Integrated Digital Systems. Warner and ids are active in the much-publicized Time-Warner interactive tv test program in Orlando, Florida.
Panelists for the third plenary session, cable’s role in the classroom, include Paul Temple of Rogers; Bobbi Kamil, U.S. Cable in the Classroom; Gerri Sinclair, X-Cite Centre, Simon Fraser University; Carole Taylor, Mount St. Vincent University; and Harvey Weir, StemNet Newfoundland.
Keynote speakers for the important dvc and network architecture update session include an all-Canadian panel composed of Don Monteith, Rogers Engineering; Steve Joeckel, Philips Broadband Networks; Fred Markhauser, Telesat Canada; David McCreath, Northern Telecom; and John Sinclair, ADT Telecom Canada.
