T-M names Provencher

Michel-Chamberland, programming v-p at Tele-Metropole, resigned last month. Chamberland, who held the post for seven years, was immediately replaced by Andre Provencher, former general manager, network development.

The broadcaster’s flagship station in Montreal, cftm-tv, provides most of the programming to the 10-station TVA Television Network in Quebec.

Chamberland moves to the private sector as a partner with Serge Arsenault in Serdy Video, a longtime tva supplier of information and sports programs.

During Chamberland’s reign, tva topped the ratings six of seven years, introducing higher budget private-sector drama to its primetime schedule. He and president and ceo Guy Crevier are credited with the successful overhaul of Tele-Metropole’s news and public affairs department.

Provencher has close ties to the independent production sector, and has been with Tele-Metropole since 1988, except for a short stint with Coscient in 1991.
