Sources say animation specialty channel Fun TV The Animation Network is going ahead with a reapplication to the crtc. Both Fun and its competitor, Le Reseau Cartoon/The Cartoon Network (headed by WIC Western International Communications and Astral Communications), were turned down last June by the ctrc. This time, they have joined forces. Fun’s major participants now are Cinar, Nelvana and The Family Channel (owned by wic and Astral).

if Shaw Communications’ bid to buy CUC Broadcasting is approved by the crtc, $17.5 million will be added to the $10 million, five-year Shaw Children’s Program Initiative. Shaw vice-president Heather Shaw says the new money would mean some revisions to the fund, specifically, support for more aboriginal and Northern programming. The crtc decision is expected in the spring.
