Montreal: Louis 19, le roi des ondes has been named this year’s Golden Reel Award winner as the top-grossing Canadian film at the box office.

Initially slated for a mid-winter release by Malofilm Distribution, the comedy hit Quebec screens in April, garnering $1.8 million.

Produced by Richard Sadler of Montreal’s Films Stock International and Jacques Dorfmann of France’s Eiffel Productions, Louis 19 has been nominated for three Genie Awards and is the feature film debut of director Michel Poulette.

The film stars Martin Drainville, nominated for best actor.

The 15th edition of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television’s Genie Awards takes place Dec. 7 in Toronto. Past Golden Reel winners include La Florida, Black Robe, Ding et Dong, le film and Jesus de Montreal.
