The dramatic series Blanche (Cite-Amerique) and the courtroom series Les Grands Proces (Sovimage/Sagittaire) lead the pack in the running for Prix Gemeaux awards, with 15 and 16 nominations respectively. Scoop III (Productions SDA) received eight. Only two programs – Blanche and Scoop – were nominated for best dramatic series. Nominations in the Best Teleroman category are for Chambres en ville (Productions Cleo-Clip), Cormoran (Radio-Canada), Montreal, P.Q. (Radio-Canada), and Sous un ciel variable (Radio-Canada).
The annual event recognizes excellence in French-language television and is sponsored by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television – Quebec. The industry gala takes place at the Imperial Cinema Sunday, Oct. 2 and, later that day, the Prix Gemeaux gala will be carried live from Place des Arts in Montreal on Radio-Canada.

The Foundation to Underwrite New Drama, The Movie Network’s annual million-dollar fund, has announced six successful applicants in the latest round of grants. At the top of the list is Brian Moore (Black Robe) for the final draft on Alliance Communications’ No Other Life, based on Moore’s novel of the same name. Others on board are David King of Vancouver for the final draft of his drama, Vulgar; filmmaker/children’s writer James Houston’s final draft of the Alliance docudrama Eagle Song; the team of Jai Dixit, Sheldon Inkol and John Lawson for the first draft of Sweet Nothing; Carl Knutson’s first draft of Wings of Lucifer; and Ed Riche’s final draft of Two From Away.
SOGIC news
sogic, the Quebec cultural funding and certification agency, issued preliminary tax credits of $11,954,782 between June 22 and Aug. 10 for certified Quebec film and television productions, with budgets totalling $66.9 million. The agency authorized loan guarantees of just over $4.7 million. Refundable tax credits issued since the beginning of sogic’s fiscal year, April 1, total $22.7 million and loan guarantees total $13.7 million.
New television series with loan guarantees exceeding $450,000 include Filmline International’s Young Classics, Watatatow IV from Productions Jeunesses Bouchard, Grands Proces ll from Vincent Gabriele and Pierre Nadeau and Triplex, also from Gabriele. The Telescene production Sirens was also certified during the period.
In the feature film area, loan guarantees exceeding $300,000 were accorded to Cinemaginaire’s Le Confessionnal, Productions du Regard’s Angelo, Fredo et Romeo, Productions Tele-Action’s Le sphinx de la banlieue and L’enfant d’eau from Productions Videofilm.
CBC names Tremblay

The cbc has named Louise Tremblay senior vice-president, resources, effective Oct. 4. Tremblay comes to the cbc from Canadian Satellite Communications, where she is currently chief operating officer. She replaces Anthony Manera, who moved on to become cbc president earlier this year.
