Spooner directs traffic for Edmonton police
At Apple Box Productions in Edmonton, director/dop John Spooner shot a pool of spots for a traffic safety campaign for itv and the Edmonton Police Services. Wes Belair and Don Gyryluk posted.
In Toronto, Stripes director/dop Greg Hoey picked up two days for Tim Horton’s through Enterprise Advertising.
Chaos International’s Brian Coyne directed and shot a spot for McCain Iced Tea. Peer Engelhardt of Reel Ideas handled post. Also at Chaos, Larry August directed a spot for Procter and Gamble’s Royale Facial Tissues through Leo Burnett. The job, shot by Barry Peterson, was edited by Alex Eaton of Third Floor Editing.
Avion Films director and cinematographer George Morita picked up two days for Neilson out of Leo Burnett. Director Dan Hackett had a day for Christie Brown out of McCann-Erickson. Stan Mestel was dop.
At Damast Gordon and Associates, director/dop Steve Gordon picked up two days on a job for p&g’s Comet Bleach Cleaner. The spot, out of Saatchi and Saatchi, was posted by Andy Attalai of Chameleon Film and Video.
Circle Productions’ Robert Turner teamed up with dop Ron Williams on a spot for Wal-Mart. The one-day shoot was out of smw. Turner also picked up two days for the Milk Marketing Board through McKim Baker Lovick/BBDO Watt Burt, with Nick Taylor as cinematographer.
At The Players Film Company, director/dop Bruce Logan just picked up eight days on a spot for Hyundai out of Backer Spielvogel Bates, u.s.a.
The Partners’ Film Company director Eric Yealland had a day for Ikea through Geoffrey B. Roche. Sean Valentini was on camera and David Hicks handled post. Ian Leech was in town to shoot and direct five days for Grey Canada’s Sprint. He had a sixth day in l.a. with Candice Bergen. Andy Ames edited the spot.
Director Matthew Vibert and dop Chris Holmes will be teaming up to shoot a few more days for Saffer and The Bay, with Gerry Banning editing. Also at Partners’, director/dop Greg Ramsey was in town for a two-and-a-half-day project for Ocean Spray. The spot, out of Bozell Palmer Bonner, was edited by Bruce Copeman.
L.T.B. Productions’ Eugene Beck directed three days for Huggies out of Ogilvy and Mather, New York. Nick Allen-Woolfe handled camera. Director David Hackl and cinematographer Doug Koch teamed up on a spot for Post Cereals. The one-day shoot was out of mbl/bbdo.
At Radke Films, Philip Kates directed a spot for Hills Fashion through Integrad Advertising. Koch handled camera on the two-day shoot. Comedy director Wayne Gibson had two days for Bell out of mbl/bbdo with Andre Pienaar as dop. Also at Radke, new director Ron Baxter Smith had a day for the Art Gallery of Ontario, and John Mastromonaco picked up two days directing a Yoplait spot out of DDB Needham Worldwide.
And last but not least, Partners’ director Colin Chilvers and dop Miroslaw Baszak are working on a music video for Skyvision’s Robocop which features Joe Walsh and Lita Ford. And Circle Productions’ David Fincher, through Propaganda Films, had six days for the Rolling Stones’ video Love is Strong, with Gary Waller as dop.
In Montreal, Jet Films reports new shoots for Dunkin Donuts and Arctic Power. Director Michel David and dop Steve Danyluk shot two French/English 30s for Dunkin Donuts and Armada BSB Monde. The elaborate post and animation have been assigned to Hybride Technologies. Transfer was done at Supersuite. The Arctic Power spot for agency Auger Babeux/fcb went to director/dop Lewis Roth.
La Fabrique d’Images reports shoots for Loto-Quebec and PALM Publicite-Marketing, Molson Export and Auger Babeux, the saaq (Quebec’s automobile insurance agency) and Publicite Martin, and Groupe Jean Coutu (pjc) and agency Natcom.
Director Francois Gingras and dop Bernard Fougeres shot the 25th anniversary pjc message while filmmaker Jean Claude Lord and dop Sylvain Brault teamed on ‘Bebe/Baby,’ a French/English 30 for the saaq. In these highly dramatized spots, a drunk driver crashes into another car at night. At the scene of the emergency, mom and dad look like they might be dead, but the little kid in the back seat is very much alive and crying out for her parents. Let’s hope the message gets through because this is not entertaining television.
Also at La Fabrique, director Jean-Francois Pouliot and busy dop Pierre Gill shot two Molson Export spots: ‘Casquette,’ wherein three good lads toss their caps to the wind when they reach their rooftop destination, and ‘Moto,’ where a biker cranks his bike up a stairwell to the amusement of his girlfriend.
The major boards for the new Super 7 Loto promotion, two English/French 30s, a French 15 and 30, were directed by Jacques Fournier with cinematographer Steve Danyluk on board. Loads of f/x and hot graphics from Fournier on this one, including a real whale in an apartment-sized aquarium, a cool trip to a distant star and a big 767 taking off into the sun and transforming into a giant Super 7 logo. Richard Ostiguy was the f/x supervisor, Buzz handled post and editing, AstralTech handled lab duties and Supersuite did the transfer.
And finally, at Figaro Films, director Dario De Gregorio and dop Barry Gravelle shot ‘Reves/Dreams,’ a French/English 30 for Monsieur Felix & Mr. Norton biscuits and Publicite Impact. And Glenn Bydwell directed and lit the action on a one-day shoot for General Mills’ Lucky Charms. The spot, a French/English 30 called ‘Rol Boudeur,’ features animation from Productions Pascal Blais and is out of busy agency Auger Babeux.

the Vancity Credit Union spot reported in the June 6 issue was from The Ace Film Company, Vancouver. The Players’ spot for Wrigley’s Hubba Bubba reported on June 20 was directed by David McNally and shot by Barry Parrell.
