Nova Scotia unveils $3M rebate program

The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation has announced a one-year $30 million investment rebate program along with a $500,000 increase in its overall investment budget. The nsfdc expects the program to create 550 full-time-equivalent production jobs. The rebate is based on a 30% refundable credit from the provincial government for salaries, provided the credit does not exceed 15% of the total production budget and that 60% of the overall production money is spent in the province.

Nova Scotia will also be getting a long-awaited soundstage ‘by the end of this fall,’ says nsfdc president Roman Bittman.

This summer, two major Hollywood feature films, Dolores Claiborne and The Scarlet Letter, will shoot in the province, bringing with them an anticipated $20 million boost to the province.

Bittman says Nova Scotia is looking to develop ‘very commercial oriented-production. We would like to focus on productions that may make money in the marketplace.’
