Suissa, Martin

make it official

Producer/director Daniele Suissa and writer Donald Martin have announced the formation of a partnership venture called 3 Themes International. The Toronto-based production company will ‘take a film at any stage, from script development to final post-production,’ according to a press release.

Four signed projects on the go for the new company include one feature for video and one feature for tv. Says Suissa: ‘The feature for tv is as essential a subject as No Blame (a multi-award-winning project on which Suissa worked with Martin) and we are going to dedicate ourselves to it.’

The remaining two projects are a video period piece called Pocahontas the Legend (scheduled to start shooting in June) and a coproduction with Europe. Details will be released after mip-tv later this month.

Suissa has directed numerous films including Martha, Ruth and Edie and The Rose Cafe. She has coproduced 25 tv films with France’s Hamster Productions and is credited with having done the first ‘twinning’ deal between Canada and a European country, for No Blame.

Suissa calls the formation ‘merely officializing eight years of a highly successful collaboration.’

Martin is a writer who has penned such made-for-tv movies as Coming of Age and To Touch a Star as well as episodes of Street Legal and Secret Service.

Martin says of the new company: ‘Story is what drives us. The international marketplace is what motivates us.’
