Leolo places third on Time’s top 10 list
The Jan. 3 issue of Time magazine has ranked Jean Claude Lauzon’s controversial coming-of-age film Leolo among the year’s 10 best movies. A Canada/France coproduction produced by Montreal’s Productions du Verseau, Leolo is ranked third behind Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence and Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List. Of Leolo, the US publication says: ‘No film is bolder in fashioning domestic tragedy into art.’ The distinction confirms Los Angeles Times’ film critic Kevin Thomas’ assessment. He rated the Canadian film as the best of 1993.
