Reynolds to start

her own company

Carol Reynolds is going solo. After just one year with Paragon Entertainment, Reynolds, president of Paragon Productions and vice-president international coproduction, is setting up shop in Toronto under the banner Carol Reynolds Productions. She expects to be operational by January 1994.

Reynolds says she will continue to ‘maintain a very close relationship with Paragon,’ including producing a limited series with David Cronenberg and mows about athletes Silken Laumann and Rick Hansen for Paragon.

‘When I left the cbc (a year ago), I left with the intention of coming out into the independent sector and really seeing if I could make a go of it. I felt very strongly that I had entrepreneurial skills and wanted to test them after 16 years at the cbc,’ says Reynolds.

After a year at Paragon, Reynolds decided she would like to take a more hands-on approach to producing. Now that she has produced the Celine Dion special for the CTV Television Network, Reynolds says she is bitten by the bug.

She will not discuss her financing arrangements except to say that she does not have a housekeeping deal with Paragon. ‘They will engage my services on these projects as a producer,’ she says.

Reynolds says she is not teaming up with Ivan Fecan, who resigned his post as cbc vice-president, English television networks late last month. ‘The rumors are just that, rumors,’ says Reynolds.

Jon Slan, chairman and ceo of Paragon Entertainment, would not comment on whether Reynolds will be replaced.
