Magic Hours, Secret History: Women Warriors and Hey, Viktor! won three awards apiece at the Calgary awards ceremony.
This year marks the first time that the award has been turned into an official competition.
The awards will be handed out on Nov. 23 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.
Drive Back Home took home the Audience Award for Canadian Narrative Feature, while The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal earned the overall top score.
The Vancouver International Film Festival will name the Audience Award winners after it wraps on Oct. 6.
The nominees include Beyond Black Beauty, The Squeaky Wheel: Canada and Y a une étoile.
The film and TV winners for the 2024 Directors Guild of Canada Awards will be announced on Oct. 28.

Buxton also took home the directing prize over the weekend at the Atlantic International Film Festival.

Matthew Rankin’s Universal Language and Sophie Deraspe’s Shepherds took the top Canadian prizes at TIFF.
The 2024 awards were presented at the Atlantic International Film Festival on Sept. 12.
