The Weather Network and its French-language counterpart have launched the first mobile applications in North America that provide 24/7 access to weather and traffic information.
WeatherEye Mobile and TrafficEye Mobile are ad-supported and free to mobile subscribers. WeatherEye Mobile offers continuously updated info on current weather conditions, short- and long-term forecasts, and weather warnings for thousands of cities in Canada and around the world. The service has been launched in English and French for BlackBerry smartphone users.
TrafficEye Mobile provides realtime access to traffic information, road incidents, traffic flow maps and access to traffic camera images. Initially, the service will provide information only on the Toronto area in English for BlackBerry users. Over the next few months, Weather Network and MétéoMédia plan to offer the mobile applications to other devices and cell phone providers and to extend the TrafficEye Mobile to other Canadian cities.
‘With the WeatherEye Mobile and TrafficEye Mobile downloads, users will have even more local relevant information at their fingertips — not to mention that they’ll be able to consult them on their phones without a monthly charge,’ said Mark Thompson, director of the mobile divisions for both channels.
