eOne breaks U.K. box office record with Twilight Saga release

Entertainment One has broken a box office record in the U.K. with the launch of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 this past weekend.

The indie distributor generated $9.3 million in opening weekend box office Canada for the Twilight finale, as part of an output deal for the Canadian and U.K. markets with Summit Entertainment.

And in Britain, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 took in $25.1 million on its opening weekend, to mark the highest opening for the teen tentpole franchise in that market.

The latest opening weekend performance was also around $3.1 million more than the take for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.

In the U.K., The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 this past weekend became the fourth highest grossing three-day weekend of all time, behind Harry Potter and newly-released Skyfall picture.

Entertainment One had the main cast for the Twilight finale attend a gala U.K. premiere on November 14.

“We’re delighted to bring the epic swansong of this record-breaking globally-cherished series to its loyal fans,” Patrice Theroux, president of filmed entertainment at Entertainment One, said in a statement.
