eOne records roster of factual sales

The angel may be in the details for The Devil You Know, as its distributor Entertainment One has secured yet another sale for the top-selling factual crime series.

eOne unveiled the news Monday, along with numerous other new foreign sales of factual and lifestyle series with major broadcasters across territories ranging from Latin America, the U.K., Germany and Italy.

Discovery in Latin America and Poland as well as Germany’s RTL and AETN in the U.K. and Ireland have licensed The Devil You Know, which recounts stories of domestic crimes.

In the Canada Media Fund’s recently released its annual report, which included a breakdown of international sales of recent CMF-backed productions, The Devil You Know was shown to have sold to 12 territories during the CMF’s 2011-12 fiscal year. It was the third-best selling Canadian TV program behind period drama and international copro The Borgias‘ 21 territories and kids program The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That‘s 19 territories.

The Devil You Know is created by Lynn Booth and produced by Vancouver-based Make Believe Media.

Still on the true crime wave, eOne says Very Bad Men has been sold to Discovery in Latin American and Poland; to AETN in the U.K., Ireland, Malta, Benelux, CEE, Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, Greece/Cyprus; and to Zuku Channel in East Africa.

It depicts the lives of some of the most notorious criminals on record as told by key members of the police, family, friends and their victims.

In a more nurturing vein, Discovery Real Time in Italy has taken Party at Tiffany’s and Party MamasParty at Tiffany’s follows party planner and owner of Altanta, Ga.’s Pink Pastry Parlor Tiffany Young as she works to make unique festive experiences for girls.

Party Mamas follow type-A moms who are determined to execute over-the-top extravagant parties for their kids.

As well, Digicast in Italy has picked up two factual series SugarStars and Builder Boss. SugarStars is the real-life sitcom following the zany team at Petite & Sweet as they create over-the-top ‘sweet tables’ decked out with their show-stopping cakes and delectable goodies for some of the biggest events in town.

Builder Boss features master contractor Jim Caruk (Handyman Superstar Challenge, Real Renos) managing the sometimes manic and often unpredictable world of home renovations.

Meanwhile Discovery in Portugal has taken the rights to Marley Africa Road Trip, which follows music legend Bob Marley’s three sons Ziggy, Rohan and Robbie as they return to Africa 30 years on from their father’s landmark freedom performance in Zimbabwe.

In addition to Very Bad Men, Zuku Channel in East Africa has secured House & Home, which explores new and exciting decorating ideas in some of today’s most exclusive households; Driving Dreams, which follows the construction of a new luxury car from sketch to show room; The Market, which looks at the global trade in human organs; Fatherland, which explores an unresolved relationship between a father who served as a soldier in Hitler’s army and a son who fled his country, his family, and his history; and The Bomber’s Dream, which follows the travails of a civilians to secure legal justice after they were targets of a military air strike.

On a lighter note, AXN SPIN in Poland picked up Kenny vs. Spenny whereas 2×2 in Russia secured both Kenny vs. Spenny and Testees. Kenny vs. Spenny revolves around the relationship, and rivalry, between two lifelong friends, who in the course of each episode challenge each other to perform outrageous real life competitions. Testees follows a couple of lazy roommates who work for an unorthodox product-testing facility and subject themselves to the bizarre and unfortunate side effects of an assortment of gadgets, devices, medications and treatments.
