Degrassi and The Borgias are amongst the series with Canadian talent behind them that nabbed Emmy nods Thursday.

Degrassi, produced by Epitome Pictures in association with Nickelodeon, was nominated as an outstanding kids program.

The series, which airs on MuchMusic in Canada and TeenNick stateside, is exec produced by Linda Schuyler, Stephen Stohn and Brendan Yorke.

European copro The Borgias, produced by Showtime in association with Take 5 Productions and Octagon Films, nabbed four nominations, including one for Canuck composer Trevor Morris for outstanding music composition for a series, and one for outstanding costumes for a series.

The series aired on Bravo! and CTV in Canada and Showtime stateside.

CCE member Don Cassidy was nominated for best picture editing in a mini-series for Hatfields & McCoys.

Also for Hatfields & McCoys, Canuck TV writer and producer Ted Mann is up for outstanding writing for a miniseries, movie or a dramatic special for part two of the mini-series’ story and teleplay.

And the miniseries’ sound editing team (supervising sound editors Tom Bjelic and John Laing; sound editors John Smith, Mark Dejczak, Michael Mancuso, Dermain Finlayson, Alex Bulick, Nathan Robitaille, Dan Kiener, Emilie Boucek; music editors Kevin Banks and Darrell Hall and foley artist Steve Baine) also received a nod.

Additionally, Canadian composer Robert Duncan received a nod for outstanding music composition for a mini-series, movie or special for an episode of drama series Missing, “The Hard Drive.”

And Alberta-filmed Hell on Wheels, produced by eOne in association with Endemol U.S. and Nomadic Pictures, is up for outstanding original main title theme music.

Vancouver-based Lionsgate Television’s Mad Men received a slew of nominations, including nods for outstanding actor, actress, directing, writing (screenwriter and series co-producer Semi Chellas, a former CFC resident, for ep “The Other Woman”) art direction, hairstyling and makeup for a single-cam series.

Frozen Planet: Ends of the Earth, a co-production with Discovery Channel Canada from BBC, Discovery Channel, The Open University, Antena 3 Television, ZDF and Skai TV netted five nods, including outstanding non-fiction series, cinematography for non-fiction programming, and sound mixing for non-fiction programming.

NFB animated film Flawed, from Halifax filmmaker Andrea Dorfman also received a nod in the new approaches to news and documantary programming category.

The film is produced by Annette Clarke of the NFB’s Atlantic Centre.

And Lorne Michaels received a nod, along with the rest of the writing team, for outstanding writing for a variety series for Saturday Night Live.

Elsewhere, Canadian actor and comedian Will Arnett was nominated for his guest appearance on 30 Rock, while Michael J. Fox was nominated for his appearance (as himself) on Curb Your Enthusiasm, both as outstanding guest actor in a comedy series.

The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out Sept. 23.
