Bee gets an A+ at 2011 Comedy Awards

Canadian comedic actress Samantha Bee has been named the Comedy Person of the Year at the 12th Annual Canadian Comedy Awards in Toronto.

Bee, best known for her work as a correspondent on The Daily Show, nabbed the honour Monday night as the five-day festival wrapped its 2011 run in Toronto.

The award was one of 25 handed out over the evening in film, television, radio, web, stand-up, theatre and sketch comedy categories.

Television performance awards were handed out to Jason Priestly, for his portrayal of Richard “Fitz” Fitzpatrick in HBO Canada’s Call Me Fitz, and the nod for female Best Television Performance went to Brooke Palsson for Less Than Kind.

The ensemble award in the category went to the cast of That’s So Weird: James Harnett, Hannah Hogan, Alana Johnston, Kayla Lorette, Joey Lucius, Alex Spencer, and AJ Vaage.

Ken Finkleman nabbed a Best Writing Award in the Television category for Good Dog, and Less Than Kind’s James Dunnison earned a Best Direction award in the TV category as well.

The film awards saw Best Film awarded to Jacob Medjuck’s Summerhood, and the Halifax native also earned a Best Direction award for the film as well. Best Film Performance – Male went to Jay Baruchel for Good Neighbours and the female category went to Maria del Mar for A Touch of Grey.
