Michael McGowan’s next movie after the musical-themed Score: A Hockey Musical is a drama, Still, now shooting in northern Ontario and New Brunswick.
James Cromwell and Geneviève Bujold topline the indie based on a true story about a 90-year-old man who fights the system to build a final home for himself and his wife.
Cromwell and Bujold play a long-married couple who live on the Fundy coast in New Brunswick (pictured), in a house badly in need of repairs and facing pushback from local inspectors as the wife’s dementia worsens.
Eventually, the husband, facing stop-work orders and possible jail, takes a final stance.
The ensemble cast for Still includes Rick Roberts, Jonathan Potts and Campbell Scott, who returns to McGowan’s side after being directed by the Canadian filmmaker in One Week and Saint Ralph.
The indie is produced by McGowan’s shingle, Mulmur Feed Co. Production, alongside Jody Colero, Tamara Deverell, Avi Federgreen, and executive producer Richard Hanet.
Still has financing from Telefilm Canada, the OMDC and The Harold Greenberg Fund, in addition to federal and provincial tax credits.
Mongrel Media is to release Still.
