Vancouver’s losses are CBC’s gain

Vancouver fans may be down in the doldrums right now, as the Boston Bruins tie up the series 2-2, but the CBC isn’t shedding any tears, as the net continues to see big ratings for the Stanley Cup Finals.

The pubcaster earned an average audience of 5.3 million viewers (2+) for Wednesday night’s Game 4 of the series, in which the Canucks lost 4-0 to Boston.

The broadcast earned 2.4 million viewers in the 25 to 54 demo.

The first two games of the series each saw 5.6 million Canadians tune in, while Game 3 saw 5.4 million.

Although Canucks fans would have preferred the team’s early winning streak to continue unabated, the CBC only stands to benefit with a little bit of on-ice drama to keep viewers tuning in.

“We’re guaranteed a Game 6 now, and can only imagine the audiences that a Game 7 might produce,” Alan Dark, executive director, CBC, said in a release.
