Quebec’s French language directors have received a cash boost from Telefilm Canada for their latest projects.

The film financier unveiled 11 French-language projects to receive coin from the Canada Feature Film Fund, including the latest movies from Xavier Dolan (pictured), Luc Dionne and Bernard Emond.

Dolan’s Laurence Anyways, a transgender drama about a man who tells his male lover he wants to be a woman, will be co-produced by Lyla Films and French partner MK2.

There’s another Canada-France co-production in writer/director Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette’s Inch’Allah, co-produced by Luc Déry and Kim McCraw of microscope, and shopped by Telefilm at the recent Independent Film Week in New York.

And writer/director Luc Dionne is set to make the crime thriller Project Omerta, to be produced by Denise Robert and Daniel Louis of Cinemaginaire, while Bernard Emond is to direct Tout ce que tu possedes, a drama he wrote and to be produced by Bernadette Payeur of indie Corporation ACPAV.

Other upcoming films backed by Telefilm Canada include the majority France-Canada co-production Magasin des suicides, an animated feature by French director Patrice Leconte to be stickhandled by Montreal-based Caramel Films and France’s Diablo Films.

There’s also Telefilm coin for Luc Picard’s Esimésac, a drama/fantasy pic produced by Loraine Richard and Luc Martineau of Cité-Amérique, Kim Nguyen’s Komona, a drama produced by Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin, and writer/director Simon Lavoie’s Le Torrent, ­produced by Lusio Films.

Rounding out Telefilm’s latest French-language film slate is Liverpool, Manon Briand’s romantic comedy from Max Films, and Eric Tessier’s family film Pee Wee, about a group of boys preparing for a major hockey tournament, from Christal Films Production and Vélocité International.
