New Metric Media, Encore form strategic partnership

The deal will see the companies co-develop and coproduce bilingual content, building on their existing collaboration.

Toronto’s New Metric Media and Montreal’s Groupe Encore have formed a strategic partnership to co-develop and coproduce bilingual content.

The partnership covers scripted and unscripted content and builds on two companies’ current collaboration on an untitled rom-com heist series announced in January.

As part of the agreement, New Metric and Encore will look at adapting each other’s existing IP for their respective English- and French-speaking markets.

Encore Television has a catalogue of more than 700 hours, including the comedies Boomerang and Les beaux malaises, and dramas Pour Sarah and Bête noire. New Metric’s comedy-focused catalogue includes Letterkenny and its spinoff Shoresy, Children Ruin Everything and Bria Mack Gets A Life.

Encore president Julie Provençal said the “strong alliance will enable broadcasters to feature unique and distinctive content projects, as they will be developed and produced with the perspectives of both cultures,” in a statement.

New Metric founder and CEO Mark Montefiore added: “This is an important and innovative collaboration focused on highlighting one of the most unique aspects of our beautiful country, our cultural and language diversity.”
