Cameras roll in St. John’s on season four of Son of a Critch

The popular comedy series will premiere in winter 2025 on CBC and CBC Gem.

Principal photography has begun on season four of CBC’s Son of a Critch in St. John’s.

Based on comedian Mark Critch’s (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) bestselling memoir of the same name, Son of a Critch is a coming of age comedy revolving around 14-year-old Mark (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, pictured) in St. John’s.

Co-creators Critch and Tim McAuliffe (Last Man on Earth) continue to serve as executive producers and showrunners on season four, which will premiere in winter 2025 on CBC Gem and CBC TV in Canada.

Son of a Critch is produced by Project 10 Productions and Hawco Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television. Lionsgate handles worldwide distribution rights outside of Canada.

Executive producers are Critch, McAuliffe, producer Andrew Barnsley (Schitt’s Creek) and Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle). Perry Chafe and Amanda Joy serve as co-executive producers; Janine Squires, Erin Sullivan and John Vatcher are producers; and Shelby Bronstine is series producer.

Vatcher is also a series director on season four alongside Deanne Foley, Joyce Wong (Sort Of) and Vanessa Matsui (Ghost BFF).

Son of a Critch stars Ainsworth, Critch, Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Claire Rankin (Stargate Atlantis), Colton Gobbo (Ginny & Georgia), Mark Rivera and Sophia Powers (Fourth Down and Love). Other returning cast members are Richard Clarkin, Nicole Underhay, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll and Nora McLellan.

The series nabbed the Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards.
