Cream Productions bolsters development team

The Toronto prodco has upped James Farr to EVP of development, in addition to a new hire and promotion.

Toronto prodco Cream Productions has promoted veteran development executive James Farr (pictured left) to the position of EVP of development, as well as appointing Zachary Frank (pictured right) to the post of VP of development and elevating Jane Churchill-Smith to director of development.

Farr will continue to report directly to CEO David Brady and president Kate Harrison Karman. Frank and Churchill-Smith will report to Farr.

In his expanded role, Farr will oversee Cream’s development team and continue to create and develop programming for both broadcast and cable networks, with a focus on true crime, history, pop culture and paranormal. Since joining Cream over a decade ago, he has developed over two dozen projects for the company, including Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan (Netflix), History of the Sitcom (CNN), The Game Show Show (ABC) and The World Without Canada (History Canada).

Farr also helped build Cream’s true-crime and paranormal slate with Investigation Discovery’s (ID) Murder U and Fear Thy Neighbor, as well as Travel Channel/Discovery+ series Eli Roth Presents: A Ghost Ruined My Life and Paranormal Emergency.

In his new role, Frank will develop and hone Cream’s slate across a variety of genres. He was previously VP of development at Blue Ant Studios, where he oversaw the development of A Secret to Die For (CrimeTime) and served as executive producer on Ghosting with Luke Hutchie and Matthew Finlan (CBC Gem). Before that, he spent nearly a decade at Cream, developing projects like Fear Thy Roommate (ID), If I Should Die (ID) and the limited series BTK: A Killer Among Us (ID).

Churchill-Smith, meanwhile, began her career at Cream as a researcher on the premium CNN series History of the Sitcom. A key member of the development team, she will continue to bring her eye for story and development skills to the company’s slate.

Cream Productions recently launched An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on Crave and Bloomberg, The Game Show Show on ABC and season two of Eli Roth Presents: A Ghost Ruined My Life on Discovery+.
