Knowledge Network adds four docs to its slate

The lineup includes a project on the record-breaking wildfire season in B.C., led by Kevin Eastwood.

British Columbia public educational broadcaster the Knowledge Network has greenlit four documentary projects from B.C. filmmakers for production.

First up is the limited series Wildfire (pictured), covering the magnitude and scale of modern wildfires hitting B.C., as Canada experiences its worst wildfire season on record this year. Kevin Eastwood is the series’ executive producer and showrunner, and the project is set to shoot throughout the summer.

A Ballad for Judi was also added to Knowledge Network’s slate. The one-hour doc is directed and produced by Baljit Sangra of Viva Mantra Films, and produced by Brishkay Ahmed. It tells the story of Judi Singh, a Punjabi-Black singer-songwriter who was a prominent fixture in the Edmonton jazz scene from the 1950s to ’70s.

Clan of the Painted Lady is a feature documentary directed and produced by Jennifer Chiu, and produced by Mel D’Souza of Silo Entertainment. The doc covers the experiences of members of the Hakka-Chinese diaspora from a first-person perspective.

Finally, the previously announced Treasure of the Rice Terraces is a doc project produced by Kent Donguines and Jacob Crawford of Aimer Films. The film explores the global impact of traditional Filipino tattooing, featuring 106-year-old tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od, who was recently on the cover of Vogue Philippines.
