Wattpad Webtoon Studios has partnered with Spanish prodco Nadie es Perfecto and Mexico’s The42Film on a film adaptation of the Wattpad bestseller Mala influencia.

The Spanish creative team includes director Roger Gual and screenwriter Antón Goenechea, who previously worked together on the series Marea alta.

Juan Mayne, the former head of Netflix’s Spanish film division, is a producer on the film and previously worked with Wattpad on Netflix’s original Spanish-language film A través de mi ventana (Through My Window; pictured).

The Wattpad novel was written by user Teensspirit and has accumulated more than 41.6 million, according to a news release. It follows star-crossed lovers who must deal with their pasts before moving forward with their relationship.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios recently saw success with A través de mi ventana. The title premiered on Netflix on Feb. 4 and spent 13 weeks in the global Top 10 for non-English films, according to Wattpad, with a sequel currently in the works. Spanish-language content is also the “second largest category” on Wattpad’s publishing platform.
