Netflix’s Toronto-shot The Umbrella Academy (22.89) made a splash in the first week of its season three premiere. The superhero series (pictured), which has an ensemble cast including Halifax-raised Elliot Page, was No. 5 on the top 10 digital originals list in Canada for the week of June 20 to 26, according to Parrot Analytics.
Still, it was no match for Netflix’s sci-fi horror smash Stranger Things, which led both the top 10 digital originals and top 10 overall TV shows for a sixth consecutive week before the July 1 release of volume two of its fourth season. The series, which counts Montreal-raised Shawn Levy as one of its showrunners and executive producers, was 103.04 times more in demand than the average TV series in Canada for June 20 to 26.
Amazon Studios’ Toronto-shot The Boys (32.99) on Prime Video rose on both the lists, moving from No. 3 on the previous week’s digital demand and overall TV charts to No. 2 on both lists for that period. Meanwhile, Lucasfilms’ Obi-Wan Kenobi (30.22), directed by Toronto-born Deborah Chow, on Disney+ came in second on the digital originals list.
Rounding out the digital originals list are Toronto-shot Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (23.75) at No. 4, and homegrown sitcom Letterkenny (14.7), which is available on Crave, at No. 9.
In the overall TV series demand list, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants (31.32) ranked at No. 3, Lucasfilms’ Obi-Wan Kenobi (30.22) at No. 4, and Sesame Workshop’s Sesame Street (27.41) at No. 5.

For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is ten times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
