Netflix has picked up the worldwide rights to Ricardo Trogi’s upcoming feature film Le Guide de la famille parfaite (Guide to the Perfect Family).

The French-language dramedy will launch globally on Netflix (excluding Canada) at the same time as its Canadian theatrical release through Les Films Opale.

The release is set for 2021, though a specific date has not yet been set. It will also launch on Netflix in Canada following its Canadian theatrical run.

Trogi’s previous feature 1991 was the highest-grossing Canadian film in 2018 and was later acquired by Netflix for multiple territories.

Produced by Félize Frappier and Louis-Philippe Drolet, Le Guide de la famille parfaite explores the complexities of a society obsessed with raising high-achieving children. Executive producer and writer Louis Morissette stars alongside Catherine Chabot, Émilie Bierre, Xavier Lebel and Isabelle Guérard. Other writers on the project are Jean-François Léger and François Avard.

The announcement comes a year after Jusqu’au déclin (The Decline), Netflix’s first original film commission out of Quebec, was released internationally, with the streamer claiming the film was viewed by 21 million households globally.

Last week, Netflix revealed its intention to establish a Canadian office and hire a dedicated content executive to oversee its operations in Canada. The California-based streamer also said it has spent more than $2.5 billion on made-in-Canada productions since 2017.
