Bell Canada takes a humorous look at the slight discrepancy between male and female points of view in a spot for its interactive Vista 350 phone.
A young fellow sits in his living room surrounded by football memorabilia, including Astroturf carpeting. He is watching a game on tv, spinning a ball while talking to his girlfriend on the phone.
‘Hon, you’re right!’ he says sincerely, eyes large. ‘There’s more to life than football.’ (‘Yes!’ he mouths silently at the tv screen.) ‘And this weekend I’m all yours. Yes, I’ll tell him – hold on, there he is now.’
We cut to a shot of the phone which has a screen telling us ‘You have a call waiting from Eden, Mark, 555-0134.’
A tap of a button and our hero is connected to his pal. ‘Hey, buddy!’ His face drops in incredulity. ‘Fifty yard line?!’
A female v/o cuts in: ‘See who’s waiting while you’re on the phone.’
Our hero: ‘Saturday? Yes I’m there. She won’t mindÉ’ Sure.
With only one actor in play, the talent can make or break the spot. And David Berni scores a touchdown. By Paula Costello
