After shooting 13 episodes, the Alliance Atlantis Communications production of Little Men which runs on u.s. weblet Pax Net has been canceled. But in a strange twist to the usual cancellation procedure, it was the producer not the broadcaster that chose to end the series.
According to sources close to the situation, Pax Net offered aac an order for nine more episodes of the series (the ‘back nine,’ to make a full 22 ep season), on the condition that the startup weblet be given a bigger stake in the back-end profits.
Apparently aac balked at the deal.
Officials at aac would comment no further than a prepared statement. ‘Alliance Atlantis and Pax Net could not come to an agreeable arrangement to renew the Little Men series and thus we parted ways,’ says Rose Mangone, vp production and publicity aac.
News of the cancellation late last month came hard to the adolescent cast of the family drama. Many of the young actors reportedly burst into tears when told of the series’ k.o. while on the Little Men set north of Toronto.
